Q: What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

A: I was looking for something different to motivate me, provide me a safe outlet for stress, and get a little healthier. I reached out to Patricia Riley to see what it was all about. She encouraged me to try it out. So I did.

Q: What was your first impression? How has that changed?

A: At first it was overwhelming, because I had never done CrossFit before. After a couple classes, I became more comfortable in my surroundings, with equipment, and movements.

Q: What was your first “bright spot”?

A: One of my first 20 minute workouts had several rounds of single unders, box steps ups, etc. I read the workout ahead of time and was worried I couldn’t do it. I finished within my time and felt really proud of myself for being able to do it and not give up. It was my first moment of I’ve got this.

Q: What’s your favorite CrossFit CTRL memory?

A: I have been telling my younger sister about CrossFit and she kept saying I need to try this out. She came home for the holidays so I was able to have her do a drop in. We both grew up playing sports but because of our age difference we never did anything competitively together. Getting to do a CrossFit class with her was really fun and made me wish she lived closer so we could do more.

Q: What do you love most about CrossFit CTRL? What keeps you coming back each month?

A: Everyone says this but it’s true…. the people. I enjoy seeing the members overcome hurdles with their workout or get that next goal and then celebrating that with them. It feels like a team atmosphere.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: My husband because he’s been through a lot over the last few years but still worked, did CrossFit, and didn’t let his health hold him back. My daughters because I don’t want to let them down. Every decision I make I want it to be a positive example for them.

Q: What is your current occupation? What are some hobbies, clubs, groups or activities you participate in?

A: I’m a principal of an alternative high school. Work takes up a lot of my time along with running my daughters to soccer, basketball, swim, and other activities. I enjoy coaching them or just supporting them on the sidelines. I’m a treasurer and member of Alpha Delta Kappa, sit on a board and several committees. Other than CrossFit, I love playing pickleball.

Q: What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try CrossFit CTRL?

A: I think many people can be intimidated by CrossFit because what they see about it is on TV. CrossFit CTRL has people of all different skill levels, ages, etc. The coaches tell you what to do with your workout so you don’t have to figure it out. You literally show up and roll with it.
