Q: What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

A: I was at a point where going to the gym was boring because I was using the same four machines and I wasn’t sure how to put together a good workout. I wanted something new. I saw ads on Facebook for this CrossFit gym a few times before I finally decided to look into it more seriously. Then of course Devan called me right away and before I knew it I was signed up.

Q: What was your first impression? How has that changed?

A: Walking into the gym for the first time I was very intimidated by the rig and the idea of doing any sort of lifts with a barbell. As someone who mostly ran (and not very fast I might add) I did not know if CrossFit was for me. However, since starting I’ve seen people of all different body types and strength levels do the workouts. I also feel my confidence grow as I add more weight to my barbell.

Q: What’s your favorite CrossFit CTRL memory?”

A: I loved the CrossFit Open event. It was so fun to cheer others on and get that same support as well!

Q: What do you love most about CrossFit CTRL? What keeps you coming back each month?

A: I love the energy and sense of community I get here. It feels so good to walk in and see friendly and familiar people each time. There is no judgement, you can come as you are, wherever you are in your health journey. Everyone is so supportive. The workouts are also great. I never think I’ll get through them but then somehow I do which makes me leave feeling great, sweaty, and also very hungry haha.

Q: What is your current occupation? What are some hobbies, clubs, groups or activities you participate in?

A: I work for CASA of Marion County, a nonprofit that advocates for children who have been abused and/or neglected. I love my job so ask me about it anytime! I also love to bake and have a very big sweet tooth!

Q: What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try CrossFit CTRL?

A: I would say that anyone can join this CrossFit gym and feel like they have a place. It is not just for the best athletes. Devan has done an amazing job at creating an inclusive atmosphere and helps everyone with their individual challenges.
