MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Katie (OG)

Q: What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

A: I saw a Facebook Ad for a 6 week intro course.

Q: What was your first impression? How has that changed?

A: I was super intimidated the first time I walked in. I was going to meet Devan for the first time and remember looking around and thinking I was wasting his time because there was no way I could do this.

I still can’t believe that I can do this. I look back at where I started compared to now, and it is absolutely amazing the changes I have made. It still doesn’t seem real.

Q: What was your first “bright spot”?

A: I honestly don’t remember my “first”. In the beginning, it seems like you have so many at first. One of my favorites was deadlifting 255 pounds.

Q: What’s your favorite CrossFit CTRL memory?

A: Finally “Rx”-ing my first workout in December.

Q: What do you love most about CrossFit CTRL? What keeps you coming back each month?

A: It’s just so supportive here. No one judges me for not being able to do a certain move and having to scale it back. On the flip side, they don’t let me underestimate myself either. Working for a 3 rep max deadlift yesterday, I was only going to add 10 more pounds for the final lift. Amber and Greg really encouraged me to add 20 pounds. I was able to hit a new PR (personal record). Honestly, I like having people who notice if you haven’t been to class and get just as excited about your accomplishments as you do. It helps to keep me accountable.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: My family. They have been so supportive with me making these changes and put up with me talking about it to them.

Q: What is your current occupation? What are some hobbies, clubs, groups or activities you participate in?

A: I’m am an insurance agent. I enjoy spending time with my dog (Max), reading, hiking, and video games.

Q: What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try CrossFit CTRL?

A: Just try it. Devan told me to trust the program and I did. In my first 6 weeks I not only lost weight (13 pounds), but I also lost body fat (10.1%) and gained muscle mass (8 points). I feel so much better. I only wish I would have started sooner.
