MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Rebecca Murphey

Q: What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?

A: I tried CrossFit years ago, wanting to challenge myself, as I’ve always been a competitive person. I had a desire to try something new and gain strength. My children are my motivation to be healthy also, to be a good role model to take care of yourself and feel good doing it.

Q: What was your first impression? How has that changed?

A: I fell in love with it and after having two kids I was in the best shape of my life. It gave me a sense of confidence I never felt before and I felt amazing feeling and looking strong.

Q: What was your first “bright spot”?

A: I have plenty of personal goals I strive for, so anytime I hit a PR, of course it’s a great feeling; however… gotta say the first big bright spot I experienced was placing 1st with Katie at the Festivus Games. We would’ve been happy with any placing but always something special about that blue ribbon and Katie was an awesome partner!

Q: What’s your favorite CrossFit CTRL memory?

A: Having my one of my best friends of 18 years, Lindsey, join CTRL and find her confidence again, pushing herself to new limits and wanting more for both her own personal health and because she found the same fun and support we all have attending CTRL… also, another close favorite was my first ever CrossFit competition, CTRL’s Summer Showdown with Jazmin! Made an amazing new friend who gave me a chance on a whim and Inspires with her strength, while also giving me the itch to want to compete more!

Q: What do you love most about CrossFit CTRL? What keeps you coming back each month?

A: It sounds cliche but that’s because it’s true – the coaches and members of CrossFit CTRL are a tremendous influence on what encourages me to keep returning. The warmth and genuine support from each and every person there makes you feel comfortable, not intimidated. A new type of family and friends, without judgement!

Q: Who inspires you?

A: Not any one specific person, but any of you who find the strength to push yourself to new limits, to be better than the person you were yesterday.

Q: What is your current occupation? What are some hobbies, clubs, groups or activities you participate in?

A: I work for the federal government and the WV Air National Guard (USAF). I love most outdoor activities. Nature and sunshine make me happy! I like going on adventures, driving and taking turns with no planned destination, listening to live music, food junkie so trying any new foods, sports from football to basketball and baseball; also, anything I can do with my kids! I’m always game to participate, so feel free to invite me because if I can – I will!

Q: What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try CrossFit CTRL?
A: Have you ever done some thing to challenge yourself but when you are successful it gives you some sort of euphoric feeling? I promise you that CrossFit will do just that. You will question why you put yourself through hard things but then when you find yourself doing something you’ve never thought you could, you’ll be so proud of yourself as you said. Give it a try because you’ll never regret pushing yourself to new limits and you’ll have a whole group of support right beside you.
