MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Cynthia
Q: What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
A: Sick of living a sedentary life and all the forced isolation was really getting me down.
Q: What was your first impression? How has that changed?
A: The rig was very intimidating at first sight and I doubted my ability to do any of it--but staff and members were so welcoming, encouraging, and never once made me feel like an idiot or like I didn't belong. So, now I love the rig--and am close to being able to climb the rope and get my toes to the bar.
Q: What was your first “bright spot”?
A: I had an old knee injury that got in the way early on in training. It made me feel defeated before I even really got started with CrossFit training...and I just thought, man I'm never going to be able to do what everyone else is doing in here. Then one day I realized Devan was right about my knee--Crossfit actually helped me strengthen and return to function as much or more than actual PT. Bright Spot:. Realizing I don't need the brace as much as I thought and I'm able to jump and run without surgery. Woot!
Q: What’s your favorite CrossFit CTRL memory?”
A: Seeing and being stoked for people getting their first rope climbs--and then realizing that I am close...as soon as I get past that fear of not being able to get back down. 😂
Q: What do you love most about CrossFit CTRL? What keeps you coming back each month?
A: I love the people who work out here. They've managed to restore my faith in humanity, lol. But I also love the style of workouts we do. It's always different and never boring; and despite not eating as cleanly as I could, I have seen some amazing changes with my body inside and out.
Q: Who inspires you?
A: Freakin' Deb Clay. She's the one who told me about CTRL and got me to try it. She's one of the most hardworking, motivating, and all-around good people I've met. She has like 3 jobs and still makes it to the gym with a smile on her face...nuff said.
Q: What is your current occupation? What are some hobbies, clubs, groups or activities you participate in?
A: I am a registered nurse at the ARC of Harrison County. We help people with developmental disabilities live more independent lives (such rewarding work!) Hobbies, etc: Other than CrossFit, I've been quite busy fixing up and relocating to a new house. When that's all sorted out, I look forward to attending more live concerts. So miss that.... I used to make wine, so I am still very much into it. Also, I love spending time with my fur babies.
Q: What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try CrossFit CTRL?
A: It will help you in so many ways--both mental and physical. Don't be intimidated because everything can be scaled to whatever level you're at. It's for everyone--old, fat, young, skinny, male, female, etc--and it will definitely help you live a better life. The coaches are great and always mindful of keeping you safe and teaching you proper form. Five stars!
