Our approach to CrossFit here in Fairmont is a little different than most places.
Most gyms will say they focus on safety or coaching, but watch one of their classes and you’ll see that’s not the case.
At CrossFit CTRL, athlete safety is our top priority.
We have athletes that need to do more, athletes that preserve the intended stimulus, and athletes that need to do less. And we coach every one of them to be the best they can be!
We’ll push you to be better, but with a lower risk of injury. Here are two examples
- An athlete wants to attempt handstand push ups, a high skill gymnastics movement. A common progression we have is push up, pike push up, handstand hold, handstand negative, handstand push up. We need to make sure the athlete can consistently perform one movement before moving on to the next one.
- An athlete comes in on a heavy day. They have a number in their head but during the warm up rounds we notice they are having a hard time getting to parallel. We have a talk and they are experiencing some hip pain.
A good coach will have the athlete either reduce the weight or reduce the range of motion to keep the athlete out of pain. A bad coach lets the athlete attempt a heavier squat and risk injury.
We do progressions, test rounds, and build ups to ensure our athletes are always safe.
Avoid the injury, the PR will come.
